Making appointments
Be punctual. If you cannot be on time, write an SMS text message or make a phone call to inform the other person about the circumstances which have delayed you.
When you are invited to an informal social event at a Polish home, you should arrive a quarter of an hour after the given time. This time allows the host to prepare everything without hurry. Do not, however, be late by more than 30 minutes.
Appointments should be made 4-5 days in advance.
Appointments should be confirmed a couple of days before a meeting is held.
Forget about meeting on Sundays. This day of the week is always free of work and devoted to family.
Refrain from calling your Polish partner after work hours. If it is important, write an SMS text message and ask for feedback.
Most Polish people take their vacations in February, July or June. Consider this in your plans.
Official working hours are normally from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. There is no official break for lunch.
The usual time of day to arrange an appointment is for 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2.30 - 4 p.m.
Americans should remember that people in many countries write the day first, then the month, then the year [e.g. November 8, 2005, is written 8.11.05]. This is usually the case in Poland.
Store hours are generally from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Shopping centers are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. the whole weekend.
