Singapore: Public Behaviour

Public Behaviour
Singapore is pretty much cosmopolitan, so you can be at ease in public. Littering and spitting are frowned upon and carry hefty fines if caught. Smoking is prohibited in all public buildings, transportation, all air conditioned places, and restaurants, including food courts. Only a handful of establishments offer a tiny smoking section at their outdoor area, if they have one.
Shaking hands is accepted but not necessary. You would typically exchange your greetings and perhaps your name card. If in doubt, wait until your counterpart offers his or her hand first. Eye contact is usually brief and longer stares are to be avoided as a rule of thumb.
