Yemen: Business Dress

Guidelines for business dress
The only absolute requirement of dress code in the Yemen is modesty. For men, this means covering everything from navel to knee. Short sleeves are therefore acceptable but not short trousers.
Conventional North Yemeni male garb is a fouteh [literally apron], which is a skirt-type garment extending down to mid-calf, a shirt, a turban and a jambieh [very large, curved dagger]. The way a man ties his turban and the shape of his scabbard are indications of social position. In the south, the jambieh is less common and a sarong is preferred to a fouteh.
Whilst the female dress code requires covering everything in public, a woman can wear literally anything she wants providing she covers herself thoroughly when she goes out.
